I hesitate to write this post.

When I re-launched this blog 2 months ago, I had a number of goals in mind. Top of that list was to write entries that were worth reading and that would hopefully promote some conversation.

I also had some anti-goals. This blog used to be more of a diary of my days. And let’s be honest here… the activities of my life are not exciting enough to justify a whole blog devoted to them. With that in mind, while I want to share my thoughts, posts dedicated to “events” in my life will be intentionally avoided unless I can draw some kind of universal meaning from it.

And yet, this post is going to be entirely about the events of the past week. Here’s why…

celebrate

I don’t celebrate enough.

As I grow older and life gets busier, birthdays and holidays become quiet, routine affairs. Spontaneous celebrations are few and far between. I may be wrong here, but I’m guessing a majority of you wish you celebrated a bit more too.

So with all this in mind, I want to share some great things that have happened in my life this past week. Things worth celebrating and smiling about.

I have a job!

In an economy where so many people are losing their jobs, I have a great one. It’s easy to get wrapped up in the daily flow of work and take it for granted that I have a job in the first place.

I won a book!

If you’ve read some of my recent posts, you know that I’m struggling with some church burnout issues. Pretty good timing for Anne Jackson over at FlowerDust.net to offer a giveaway of her new book addressing this very issue. Out of 250 people, I get to celebrate being 1 of 10 who is being shipped a free copy of “Mad Church Disease”!

Readers

This type of blogging is very new to me. While I certainly enjoy hearing myself talk, my goal is to actually engage OTHERS. This week, one of you pushed my subscriber numbers high enough that I get to celebrate double digits! Thank you!

A spectacular greeting

My daughter is learning to walk and up until last night I had only seen her take a couple steps. Imagine my delight when I come home from work last night, see my daughter clear across the room, who turns to see me, starts laughing, stands up and runs halfway across the room before falling down and crawling the rest of the way to hug my leg! I’ll celebrate that ANY day!

Celebrity encounter

I work for a fairly large company and while I’ve been here a little over a year, I’ve never been to one of our quarterly “all hands” meetings. Quite the surprise when I finally decide to go and Tom Cruise pays us a visit! I didn’t get to meet him or even stand near him, but it’s not every day that you get to say “Tom Cruise was at my company meeting.” I’m not a particularly huge fan of Tom Cruise, but I AM a fan of acting, so this is worth celebrating to me.

While I’d love for you to celebrate these things with me, I also want you to remember to celebrate the things in your life this week. We don’t celebrate enough. It helps to remind each other.

What are you celebrating this week?

Just as I thought might happen… subscriber numbers are highly volatile. Part of the reason I wanted to celebrate “double digits” while I could!

(The day after this post, subscriber numbers dropped down from 11 to 9.)

If we put off celebration for another day, we might not celebrate at all. Sometimes because the reason to celebrate goes away, but often just because we forget and move on.

Celebrate today while it IS today!

I’m celebrating the results of the presidential election. I’m celebrating how much Nathan loves to wrestle. And I too, am celebrating stable employment amid a turbulent time.
